How
do I Copy an Image from the Net?
1. Find an
image that is in public domain (not copyrighted). As a general rule,
70 years following the death of an artist puts the work into public
domain; or you will need to search for copyright-free sites, such
as "free image" sites. It is illegal to copy images which
are copyrighted without permission granted. Usually, there is a
web site master listed who can be contacted for permission.
2. Right mouse click on the image (on Mac's you can just click and
hold). A pop-up window will appear with several choices offered.
Choose "save image as".
3. In the drag down menu, select the place on your computer where
you want the image to be stored (on Mac's choose the correct file
on your desktop).
4. In the file name box, type in a name for the picture.
5. In the save as file type box, select the type you want.
(Usually you select a jpeg for a photo, or a gif for a clip-art.)
6. Click on OK to confirm.
7. The image
can then be "inserted" in a page as desired. Be sure to
credit the image source.
8. You may
find the image is too large (or small) for your purpose. You can
change the size in several ways:
a) Select
the image, and a box should appear around it with "tags"
on the corners. Hold the the shift key and click on a tag to move
the size in or out. The may alter the quality somewhat.
b) Another option is to open the image in a program which allows
you to Modify image size. For example, Fireworks or PhotoShop
or PageMaker allow you to make these changes.
