1 Introduction to Drama
Introduction:
Learning to perform a play is far more complex that one might
imagine. It requires a large body of skills and understandings,
and a special kind of relationship with the others involved in
the production. Unit one focuses on the most basic of drama skills.
By the end of the unit, you have the skills to discuss the nature
of acting as a craft and an art, and participate in drama activities.
The skills to be gained are as follows:
- willingness
to trust and to relinquish control
- the
ability to identify impulse, objectives, and obstacles
- an understanding
of status and conflict
- the
ability to improvise given specific structure
- basic
movement, vocal and concentration skills
- the
ability to identify some personal characteristics
- the
ability to set goals for the class
