Interpretation: The
mask is now ready to use in interpretive ways to express character
and movement. Sit with your mask in a quiet space and just study
the face. When you are ready, turn your back, put on the mask
and just look at yourself in a mirror (if possible). You can then
begin moving and experimenting with walking, stopping and walking
again.
Put
a purpose to your movement - an objective (a verb). Explore movement.
It is best if you have access to a large mirror so yourself.
Look
at the video below and consider the similarities between Masks
and Puppets.
Wise
Fool Puppet Intervention is a theatre project dedicated
to community, celebration
and change. In the traditions of public art and processional
theatre, they combine giant
puppetry, mask, and stiltdancing to create highly participatory,
issue-oriented, outdoor theatre that is
accessible to all.
Think
about famous puppets (or Muppets) you have seen, and try to incorporate
the movement into your interpretation.
