Introduction:
The purpose of this lesson is for students to practice research skills while learning independently about play types and related terminology.

Objectives:
- to understand the historical and cultural influences on a play
- to understand how plays are made
- to understand that today's dramatic artists are influenced by various theatre traditions

Students should read the handout on the types of plays and styles, then conduct an Internet search for the definitions. The assignment also requires them to categorize the style of each type of play. (40 min.)
